  1. MIDNIGHT, MOONLIGHT AND THE SECRET OF THE SEA - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears in the book, "WE ARE ALL LEGENDS," by Darrell Schweitzer, published by Donning Starblaze Editions, 1981.

Deep down at the core of every human being's soul, a battle rages between the forces of Good and the forces of Evil. That conflict is inherent in our DNA, our Genes. It has a purpose for being there. It presents every human with a choice to make; to take sides, to chose to be a good person or an evil one. It is part of our "growing up," process as an individual, and as a socitey of men. The choices that men and nations of men have made over time, for good or evil, has been documented since the beginning of recorded history.

No piece of fiction can match the true drama that has occurred in the past and is taking place now in the real world, the real universe. But for some reason historians can't seem to write about "history" and make it as exciting to read as do fiction writers about imaginary conflicts between the good and the bad within us.

I guess the value in fantasy fiction lies in it's concentration on the "spirit" rather than the reality of man's progress; the spirit that permeates our dreams and is as important to our future as is the drama taking place in our daily lives as we face the challenges of the real world.

Aren't the things we dream about, who we really are?

And when asked, "what shall you do if I take away your dreams?" he answered, "I shall die".
